We invite you to join the high performing team at the Town of Prescott Valley, serving as our Children’s Librarian in the Community Services Department. All librarians serve in a leadership role within the library, organization, and community with or without a formal supervisory assignment.

Examples of Duties

In this position you will:      

  • Plan, develop, schedule, and conduct activities and programs for an assigned service division. This Librarian position will be assigned to supervise the Children’s division of the library mainly focusing on collections, services, and programs for ages 0-8.
 
  • Maintain collections of materials and resources in diverse formats from various vendors, occasionally in collaboration with consortia partners. This involves reorganizing collections and weeding when necessary.
 
  • Perform a variety of customer service duties including    assisting patrons with Reference, Public Access Computers, databases, software, and other equipment.
 
  • Publicize and promote library services, programs, and    collections. Conduct public relations functions and attends community events. Provide tours of library facilities and make presentations on services. 
 
  • Perform a variety of general library and administrative work such as shelving, shelf reading, answering telephones, running errands, and pickup of supplies needed for activities.
  • Serve as a professional library resource by recommending children’s library materials in all formats to library patrons and community groups; provides leadership and trains staff in children’s library materials recommendations, trends in reading and publishing, and community reading and learning interests.

 

Typical Qualification

 

  • Requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS), at least two (2) years of professional     experience in a public library, and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Or any equivalent   combination of education, training and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities.
 
  • Working knowledge of principles and techniques of selecting and managing a library collection and library classification schemes (i.e. Dewey Decimal System).
 
  • Skilled in developing, planning, organizing, and coordinating programs within assigned areas.      

 Compensation:   

The salary range is $63,294 to $88,608. Starting salary depends on qualification and experience. The town provides a full range of benefits including no-cost to you health coverage and a generous retirement package including participation in the Arizona State Retirement.
